Dr. Roy Filly is Professor Emeritus of Radiology, of Surgery, and of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the UCSF Medical Center. He was Chief of the Section of Diagnostic Sonography in the Department of Radiology from 1976 through 2004 and Co-Founded the UCSF Fetal Treatment Program. Dr. Filly also held a Clinical Professorship in Radiology at Stanford University from 1988 - 2001. Dr. Filly was promoted to full professor at the age of 36, having served less than five years as a full-time faculty member at the University of California San Francisco.

He received his M.D. degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine, Summa Cum Laude; interned at Case-Western Reserve University Hospital and did his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Stanford University where he served as Chief Resident and received the Robert Reid Newell Award as an outstanding resident.

Dr. Filly has won numerous other awards, including the prestigious Joseph H. Holmes Pioneer Award and the William J. Fry Memorial Award from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the latter being the highest award for an American sinologist. He was also the first recipient of the Lawrence A. Mack Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, given for lifetime achievement in ultrasound research. He has given many named lectures and is an honorary member of numerous national and international societies. Dr. Filly has published more than 500 scientific manuscripts, is co-author of 2 books, and author of an interactive teaching CD-ROM.
