Roxana G. Burciu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware and the Director of the Motor Neuroscience and Neuroimaging Laboratory. The mission of the Motor Neuroscience and Neuroimaging Laboratory is to contribute to a greater understanding of the neural control of movement in health and disease. The lab uses a variety of high-resolution, non-invasive functional and structural MRI techniques (task-based and resting-state fMRI, ASL, diffusion MRI and SWI) coupled with comprehensive behavioral measures to investigate the mechanisms contributing to motor impairment in basal ganglia and cerebellar disorders. A major focus of Dr. Burciu's research is the development and validation of MRI markers of Parkinson's disease (PD). Active work in the lab also includes progression studies focusing on brain and motor behavior changes in PD that could lead to a structured approach for developing novel strategies to improve motor function in this neurological population.
