Professor Rowena Johnson is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist with expertise in diagnostic imaging and image-guided treatments of elite athletes. She works at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre which is part of Oxford University Hospitals and holds the chair of Sports Medicine Imaging at the Carnegie School of Sport, Leeds Beckett University.
She has undertaken two musculoskeletal fellowships at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and the University of Toronto respectively. Her regular practice includes professional sports imaging and image-guided injections for a range of conditions including complex hip and groin problems. She is experienced in international elite sports imaging including the Pan American and Para Pan American Games. She also treats adolescent athletes having worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Sick Kids, Toronto. Her regular clinical practice covers all aspects of musculoskeletal imaging including trauma, spine abnormalities, bone, and soft tissue tumors, bone infection, and rheumatological problems.
She has led iRefer, the Royal College of Radiologists’ flagship publication. This is an internationally recognized framework for patients to have the optimum investigation and intervention for all radiological subspecialties including musculoskeletal and ensure high standards of care.
