Rose O. Tompkins, MD, is a board-certified cardiologist and a leading specialist in adult congenital heart disease at the Smidt Heart Institute of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She serves as the Associate Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Program, where she focuses on long-term, comprehensive care for adults born with congenital heart defects—an increasingly complex and growing patient population,n thanks to advances in pediatric cardiac care.
Tompkins received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 2010 and completed extensive clinical training in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. She has more than a decade of experience in cardiology, with specialized expertise in conditions such as Ebstein’s anomaly, pulmonary artery agenesis, truncus arteriosus, congenital heart disease (CHD), and heart transplant care. Her work includes active participation in clinical research, with numerous peer-reviewed publications advancing the field of adult congenital heart care.
At Cedars-Sinai, Tompkins plays a key role in building and expanding the Adult Congenital Heart Program, which has received national accreditation for delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary care to complex patients at all stages of life. She is also involved in initiatives to support seamless transitions from pediatric to adult cardiac care and to develop innovative, minimally invasive treatments that may reduce the need for repeated surgeries.

Outside of her clinical work, she advocates for raising awareness about lifelong care needs for adults with congenital heart conditions and contributes to national clinical research efforts in her specialty.
