Ronald M. Harden is the Professor and Director of the Centre for Medical Education at the University of Dundee. Ronald Harden graduated from medical school in Glasgow, UK. He completed training and practiced as an endocrinologist before moving to full-time medical education. He is a Professor of Medical Education (Emeritus) at the University of Dundee, Editor of Medical Teacher & General Secretary, and Treasurer of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE).


Ronald Harden is committed to developing international collaborations and new approaches to curriculum planning, assessment, and teaching and learning. Ideas that he has pioneered include the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) which has been universally adopted as a standard approach to the assessment of clinical competence, the spiral curriculum, and the SPICES model for curriculum planning and models outcome-based education and is co-author or editor of four leading texts in medical education. 

Professor Harden is recognized as one of the leading international figures in medical education with an active presence in more than 40 countries and his work is recognized in many more. His contributions to excellence in medical education have attracted numerous awards including the Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education. He was awarded by the Queen the OBE for his services to medical education.
