Rona D. Yaeger, MD is a medical oncologist who specializes in treating people with cancers of the colon and rectum. She also cares for people with anal squamous cell cancer, carcinoid tumors, and other gastrointestinal tract cancers. Her clinical and laboratory research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Center on understanding molecular subsets of colorectal cancer and developing new therapies based on this understanding. Her work focuses on colorectal tumors with mutations in the BRAF or RAS genes, and she is leading our clinical trial program for colorectal tumors that harbor BRAF mutations. She treats patients and performs laboratory research and believes that her experiences in each realm inform her work and make her a better researcher. Ultimately, She aims to use our insights into cancer cell biology to help guide the care of our patients and to develop more rationally designed clinical trials that test mechanism-based therapeutic strategies.
