Prof. dr hab. Romuald Lango graduated from the Medical Academy in Gdańsk in 1998. He gained his professional experience initially at the Provincial Complex Hospital in Elbląg, and from 1990 at SPSK No. 1 (later the University Clinical Center) in Gdańsk. In the years 1993-1994, he worked in the intensive care unit of the OLVG hospital in Amsterdam. He also completed internships at Harefield-Brompton hospitals near London and Glenfield in Leicester, Great Britain. He is a specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care, and also holds the European Diploma in Intensive Care. His interest in continuous renal replacement techniques dates back to 1993 when he began collecting material for his doctoral dissertation in the Intensive Care Unit of the OLVG hospital. Assessment of high-volume continuous venous-venous haemofiltration in the treatment of acute renal failure in patients with multiorgan failure syndrome after cardiac surgery or as a result of cardiogenic shock ", which he defended at the Medical Academy in Gdańsk in 1998. In 2005 he obtained the degree of habilitated doctor, and in 2016 academic title of professor. His scientific achievements include original, case studies and review papers on the use of renal replacement therapy in the intensive care unit. Clinical experience of prof. Romuald Lango in the field of extracorporeal therapies includes continuous renal replacement therapies based on the most popular systems available in our country, adsorption therapies, TPE, SPAD, as well as veno-venous and veno-arterial ECMO. Together with prof. Krzysztof Kusza was the scientific editor of the textbook "Extracorporeal blood purification in the intensive care unit", and the scientific editor of the Polish edition of the textbook "Continuous renal replacement therapy" by John Kellum, Rinaldo Bellomo, and Claaudio Ronco. Currently, he is the head of the Department of Cardioanesthesiology at the Medical University of Gdańsk. and the scientific editor of the Polish edition of the textbook "Continuous renal replacement therapy" by John Kellum, Rinaldo Bellomo, and Claaudio Ronco.
