His main expertise domains are vascular imaging, intracranial aneurysms, and stroke, with special skills in genetics. After medical studies at the medical school of the University of Nantes between 2001 and 2006. Dr. Bourcier pursued the Examination for Residency in 2007, where he followed a Residency Training Program in Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology within the University Hospital of Nantes. He received a Master's degree in anatomy, radio-anatomy, and embryogenesis in 2008 and presented his MD thesis in 2012 on “Endovascular treatment of stroke in the acute phase” under the supervision of Professor Hubert Desal. In 2013, Dr. Bourcier was awarded a Master's degree in biology, biotechnology, and therapeutical research by the University of Nantes. From 2009 to 2012, he pursued various sub-specializations, including otolaryngology imaging in Paris, interventional neuroradiology in Limoges, and diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology in the French society of neuroradiology (SFNR) in Paris. He presented his Ph.D. thesis in 2017 on “Genetics of familial forms of intracranial aneurysm”. From 2015 to 2018, he was the coordinator of the ICAN project that led to the discovery of one of the first genes involved in the development of intracranial aneurysms (ANGPLT6). He also trained in The Netherlands and spent one year as a fellow researcher with the team of GJE. Rinkel at the UMC Utrecht. He built strong research collaborations with this leading center with historical expertise in the field of clinical, epidemiological, and genetic research on intracranial aneurysms. This collaboration is established and consolidated through the International Stroke and Genetic Consortium (ISGC). Dr. Romain Bourcier is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Neuroradiology.
