Rodrigo Ruano, M.D., Ph.D., has joined Mayo Clinic as director of the Fetal Diagnostic and Intervention Center. His focus will be on establishing a fetal surgery program at Mayo Clinic — a first in the Upper Midwest. Dr. Ruano was co-director of the Texas Children’s Fetal Center at Texas Children’s Hospital and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine.
He completed a fellowship in fetal intervention at Baylor College of Medicine, and fellowships in maternal and fetal medicine at Center Hospitalier Intercommunal de Poissy/Saint Germain-en-Laye in Poissy, France, and Hôpital Universitaire Necker-Enfants Malades in Paris, France. He completed residencies in obstetrics and gynecology at the College of Medicine of Hospital Publiques de Paris and Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade of Medicine at the University of Sao Paolo, Brazil. He received his medical degree and Ph.D. from the University of Sao Paolo.
