Robyn Jamieson MBBS, PhD, FRACP

Associate Professor Jamieson is an expert in the clinical genetics assessment of patients with ocular disorders, molecular genetic techniques and the analysis of mouse models of human disease whose research has led to insight to the genetic bases of hereditary cataracts, glaucoma and microphthalmia. She completed training in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics in Brisbane and Sydney. An NHMRC medical postgraduate scholarship enabled her to complete a PhD studying mouse models of human disease at the CMRI.

She obtained an NHMRC Neil Hamilton Fairley Fellowship which allowed her to gain postdoctoral molecular genetics experience in Manchester, UK. On return to Australia, this fellowship also facilitated Dr Jamieson’s primary research focus on children and adults with hereditary blinding disorders. She holds academic appointments as Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Pediatrics & Child Health and Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney.

Her research has led to insight to the genetic bases of hereditary cataracts, glaucoma and microphthalmia. Jamieson established the Eye Genetics Group in the Embryology Unit with the goal that research information obtained from patients and families may be applied to mouse models of these diseases so that therapeutic avenues may be pursued. Jamieson is an expert in the clinical genetics assessment of patients with ocular disorders, molecular genetic techniques and the analysis of mouse models of human disease. The Eye Genetics Group uses these approaches to understand how the genes and proteins work to develop better treatment strategies. The current focus of the Group is the identification of novel genes in eye development and the functional consequences of their abnormal expression through the use of in vitro and in vivo model systems.
