Dr. Robyn Houlden is a Professor and Chair of the Division of Endocrinology at Queen’s University. She joined the Department in 1990 as a clinician/scholar. She is a consultant in adult endocrinology at the Kingston General and Hotel Dieu Hospitals, Medical Advisor for the Diabetes Education and Management Centre at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, and Specialist Lead for the Southeast Ontario Diabetes Regional Coordination Centre. She has served as a diabetes advisor for the Canadian Optimal Medication Prescribing and Utilization Service of the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health and is currently a member of the Advisory Group for Knowledge Translation of Insulin Use Interventions and Safeguards, Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada).

Dr. Houlden played a steering role in the 2003, 2008 and 2013 Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of diabetes. She has a keen interest in medical education and has coordinated the Endocrine portion of the Endocrine/Renal course for many years. She has won over 17 teaching awards including the inaugural Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism Educator Award, and the PAIRO Trust Fund Travel Award. She is an investigator in a number of clinical trials of new therapies for diabetes and has a research interest in innovative models of diabetes health care delivery. In 2002, she was the recipient of the Charles Best Award from the Canadian Diabetes Association for her work in improving the quality of life for individuals with diabetes across Canada.
