Dr. Roberto Salgado is board certified in Anatomic Pathology since 2006 and has obtained his medical training at the University Hospital of Antwerp (Belgium) and the University Hospital in Leiden (The Netherlands).

A PhD-thesis was obtained working with the Translational Cancer Research Group of the AZ Sint-Augustinus Hospital/Antwerp and at the Department of Pathology at the University Hospital of Antwerp, studying the interactions of hemostasis and angiogenesis in breast cancer.

His training in Anatomic Pathology and Molecular Pathology took place at the University Hospital Antwerp, the University Hospital Leuven, and at the Institut Jules Bordet. Currently, he works at the Department of Pathology in GZA/Antwerp.

He is also a scientific collaborator at the Breast Cancer Translational Research Laboratory of the Institut Jules Bordet, at the Immuno-Task Force of the Breast International Group, and also at the Translational Breast Cancer Genomic and Therapeutics Laboratory of the Peter Mac Callum Cancer Center, Melbourne, Australia.

He’s chairing an International Consortium of Pathologists, namely the “International Immuno-Oncology Biomarkers Working Group” which mainly develops guidelines and guidance on the assessment of Immuno-Oncological Biomarkers in cancer.

He works in close collaboration with the EORTC, of which he is an active member of the Pathobiology Group where he’s actively involved in developing the SPECTA concept at an EU-wide level. He is also an auditor on Molecular Pathology/Genetic laboratories for the Federal Belgian Government.
