Prof. Roberto Berni Canani received his MD and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Naples Federico II, Naples, Italy. He is board certified in Pediatrics. Chief of the Pediatric Allergy Program at the Department of Translational Medical Science and founder of the ImmunoNutritionLab at CEINGE Advanced Biotechnologies, Univ. of Naples Federico II.
Prof. R. Berni Canani has developed an interdisciplinary research team and a highly integrated research clinical program to better understand the pathogenic mechanisms of GI diseases and provide the best care for children affected by these disorders. His research is focused on the identification of the best strategies for the management of pediatric GI disorders. He uses a bench-to-bedside approach to investigate the pathophysiological basis of pediatric GI diseases including animal models, peripheral blood cell culture from children, epigenetics biomarkers involved in the regulation of GI and immune system function, and gut microbiome structure, and function analysis.
His studies on the gut microbiome, probiotics, postbiotics, immune tolerance, and immune nutrition have already been translated into novel concepts and led to a paradigm shift in the pathogenesis and treatment of pediatric GI diseases.
He is the author of more than 300 publications. His publications are widely quoted. Associate editor of World Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Research, Frontiers in Nutrition, Frontiers in Allergy, International Journal of Autoimmune Disease & Therapy.
