Charles Welliver, MD, specializes in treating a variety of urologic disorders affecting men. He is fellowship trained in all aspects of men's health, including the treatment of erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, low testosterone, sexual dysfunction, male factor infertility, and benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). He is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Urology at Albany Medical College where he is delighted to serve as the director of Men’s health.
Dr. Welliver attended the University of Rochester for undergraduate studies and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. After two years teaching high school science, he then went on to attend Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed a residency in urology at Albany Medical Center and then went on to fellowship training in men's health with world-renowned clinicians, Tobias Kohler, MD, and Kevin McVary, MD.
He has received awards both regionally and nationally for his research. His areas of special interest include erectile dysfunction, sexual rehabilitation after cancer surgery, optimization of penile prosthetics/implants, factors affecting male fertility, and multiple facets of urinary issues in men. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is a frequent lecturer at regional and national meetings.
Dr. Welliver is a dedicated journal article reviewer for multiple urologic journals and won "Best Reviewer" in BPH/sexual function/infertility from the Journal of Urology in 2016 and 2019. He is involved with the American Urologic Association at a national level as a member of the most recent BPH Guidelines committee and as a part of the public media committee. He is also a section editor for the American Urologic Association Core Curriculum and has authored the chapter on surgical BPH in Campbell-Walsh Urology (the “bible of Urology”) in the last few editions.
