Robert Fazzio MD, PhD

Robert T. Fazzio, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist and breast imaging specialist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He specializes in breast imaging, breast ultrasound, image-guided breast interventions, and the development of advanced imaging technologies for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. His clinical expertise includes mammography, breast MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography, ultrasound, and minimally invasive image-guided biopsy procedures.

Dr. Fazzio earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of Science in Protein Biochemistry from the University of Utah, followed by a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the same institution. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Mayo Medical School and completed a transitional internship, a Diagnostic Radiology residency, and a Breast Imaging and Intervention fellowship at Mayo Clinic. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology and serves as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Fazzio is an accomplished researcher whose work focuses on breast cancer screening, contrast-enhanced mammography, breast ultrasound, artificial intelligence in breast imaging, and image-guided interventions. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and serves as Chair of the Division of Breast Imaging at Mayo Clinic. He is an active member of the American College of Radiology, the Society of Breast Imaging, the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, the Radiological Society of North America, and the American Roentgen Ray Society. His contributions to breast imaging research and innovation have been recognized with honors including the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute Established Investigator Career Development Award, the Department of Surgery Innovation Award, and multiple RSNA educational exhibit awards.
