Dr. Robert Jamison received his PhD in clinical psychology from the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London, England. He completed internships in clinical psychology at Bexley Hospital, England and at Lakeshore Mental Health Institute, Knoxville, Tennessee, and a post-doctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. As an associate professor at Harvard Medical School with appointments in the Departments of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, Psychiatry, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Jamison has enjoyed balancing clinical duties with research and teaching.

Dr. Jamison is board certified by the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists. He is on the American Pain Society board of directors, president of the New England Pain Association, and is a member of the American Psychological Association, and International Association for the Study of Pain, among others. In addition, Dr. Jamison is on the editorial board of the Clinical Journal of Pain, The Journal of Pain, and Pain Medicine, and the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management. He has written numerous articles on pain assessment, pain management, and opioid use in chronic pain patients.
