Robert work in a busy Adult Cardiothoracic department in the North East of England. The unit operates on about 1100 cardiac patients and 450 thoracic patients per year. The 9 Consultant anaesthetists provide all the cover for this and the 12 bedded cardiothoracic intensive care unit.
He have a special interest in TAVI, VAT thoracic surgery for lobectomies and the primary PCI for ST MI patients in cardiogenic shock requiring critical care on the ICU. His management role at present is the clinical director for cardiac intensive care. The unit supports strongly the anaesthetic trainees who rotate though to gain their cardiothoracic competencies.
