Robert L. Mcclain MD

Dr. Robert L. McClain is a board-certified anesthesiologist at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, with specialized expertise in regional anesthesiology, acute pain management, and liver transplant anesthesia. He is recognized for his patient-centered approach to perioperative care and his commitment to advancing the use of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia techniques to improve surgical outcomes and postoperative recovery.

Dr. McClain earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Shorter University before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from Mercer University School of Medicine. He completed a transitional internship with Baptist Health System, followed by residency training in Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education in Jacksonville. To further develop his expertise, he completed a fellowship in Regional Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic, where he gained advanced training in regional anesthesia and pain management techniques.

His clinical interests include acute pain management, ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, and anesthetic care for liver transplantation. Through his work, Dr. McClain focuses on optimizing perioperative pain control, enhancing patient safety, and promoting faster recovery following surgery. His expertise in regional anesthesia has helped expand the use of nerve block techniques that reduce opioid requirements and improve patient comfort.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. McClain is actively involved in medical education and professional service.
