Robert J. Gillespie graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1997 and completed his residency training at Rush Children's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois in 2000. He completed a year as Chief Resident at Rush in 2001 and has also received a Master of Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois – Chicago. He is board certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Gillespie’s passion lies in improving the quality of care delivered to children of all ages, with a particular interest in early childhood. He has been instrumental in training providers across the state on the implementation of various screening tools, including for developmental delays, autism, adolescent depression and substance abuse, and maternal depression. He is currently working on screening for parental Adverse Childhood Experiences (a project shared within TCC with Dr. Pettersen) and has been recognized nationally for this work. Dr. Gillespie serves as the Medical Director for the Oregon Pediatric Improvement Partnership, where he works with multiple practices across the state in improving the quality of care given to all children. He also advocates for children in multiple state policy committees, including the workgroups responsible for deciding the maternal and child health quality measurements that are used in assessing the care delivered through the Coordinated Care Organizations. He has also been involved in the committees responsible for determining the standards for practices becoming certified as a medical home under the state’s Patient-Centered Primary Care Home Program. He is fluent in Spanish.
