Robert E. Donohue MD

Robert graduated from the NYU School of Medicine in 1964, completed two years of General Surgery at NYU / Bellevue Hospital in 1966 and completed his Urology residency at NYU Medical Center in 1970. He served in the New York Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. He was awarded the Valentine Fellowship from the New York Academy of Medicine and spent the year as Special Fellow in Urology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center under Dr. Willet F. Whitmore, Jr. He then traveled to the South Pacific and served as Senior Surgical Registrar in Urology at the Christchurch Public Hospital, Christchurch, New Zealand. He joined the faculty at the University of Colorado in Denver in September 1972 as Assistant Professor of Surgery, and received his board certification in Urology in 1974.
In 1977, he was appointed Chief of the Urology Section at the Denver VAMC and retired from that position in October 2009, Associate Professor of Surgery in 1978, and Professor of Surgery with tenure in 1990. He served as Acting Chief of the Surgical Service at the Denver from 1982 to 1984. While at the VAMC, he served as Chairman of the Cancer Committee and Chief of the Tumor Board from 1989 till 2009, and was the assistant editor to the Journal of Urology from 1989 to 1994. In 2004, he served as President of the South Central Section of the AUA and conducted a very successful meeting in Dublin, Ireland.
He also served on the AUA's Judicial and Ethics Committee from 2004 to 2010 and was the Historian for the South Central Section and SCS representative to the AUA's Historical committee. He publish on a wide variety of benign and malignant topics. His interests are in all aspects of Oncological Urology, prostate, bladder, renal and testis cancer, benign testis masses, testicular microlithiasis, vesico-ureteric reflux, cryptorchidism and subsequent testicular malignancies and the asymptomatic and acutely symptomatic masses of the scrotum, the acute scrotum, including torsion of the spermatic cord, epididymitis and orchitis.
