Robert Dyer PhD

Dr. Robert A. Dyer is a Professor in the Dept of Anaesthesia at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has been the head of Obstetric Anaesthesia at the University of Cape Town, New Groote Schuur Hospital since 1999. The hospital has 20,000 deliveries a year. He deals with a vast array of high-risk pregnancies including patients with major cardiac valvular disease, HIV / AIDS, and preeclampsia/eclampsia. His hospital receives 10 women with severe preeclampsia and 1 with eclampsia every day.

Rob has a major research interest in cardiovascular monitoring during spinal anesthesia for cesarean section investigating the hemodynamic effects of vasopressors commonly used to treat/prevent hypotension and is also a member of the IJOA Editorial Board. He is married to an obstetrician and has 2 children. He is a keen golf and squash player and loves opera, hiking, and fly fishing.
