Robert Simari became executive dean of the University of Kansas School of Medicine on March 24, 2014. The executive dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Medicine. The executive dean is responsible for advancing the integration of the educational, clinical and research programs of the medical school campuses in Kansas City, Wichita and Salina. The executive dean also provides leadership in medical education, scholarly activity, research, patient care and service. The executive dean reports to the executive vice chancellor of the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Dr. Simari is a recognized leader in the field of translational cardiovascular medicine. He directs the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute-sponsored Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network. His laboratory has made fundamental discoveries in the areas of thrombosis and identification of vascular stem cells. He was a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine prior to joining KU. At Mayo, he served as vice chair of Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and co-principal investigator of the Center for Translational Science Activities
