Robert J.m. Paul Klautz MD, PhD

Dr. RJM (Robert) Klautz is a thoracic surgeon with a focus on surgical treatment of heart failure and early and late follow-up of heart valve reconstructions. In 1985 he obtained his doctorate with the thesis Myocardial contractility in the immature heart and in experimental congenital heart disease. During his Ph.D., he conducted physiological research on the mechanical properties of the heart at the Cardiovascular Research Institute in San Francisco. He followed his training as a thoracic surgeon at the Dijkzigt hospital in Rotterdam. Since 2008, Robert Klautz has been head of the Thoracic Surgery Department. Under his leadership, the department, in collaboration with the Heart Disease Department, has grown into a leading center with a national and international reputation in the field of reconstructive valve surgery and heart failure surgery.
