Rob Thwaites joined Takeda R&D in 2014 in the London office, where he is responsible for leading the development of “real world” evidence plans for compounds across the company’s portfolio and for managing the London-based outcomes research team. Prior to this, he had worked in consulting, for Evidera, where he headed the worldwide health economics and epidemiology teams, and for McKinsey & Co in Sydney, Australia, and in the pharmaceutical industry with GlaxoSmithKline in London and Philadelphia. Rob has been involved with real world data (RWD) activities since the early 1990s. Apart from leading RWD studies, Rob set up and ran the central group for RWD in GlaxoSmithKline R&D in the early 2000s. He has been involved in the UK’s national efforts to capitalise on the UK’s strengths in data and systems since that time, and is Chair of the Pharmaceutical Industry Health Information Group at the UK trade association, ABPI. Rob was heavily involved in the IMI project GetReal, where he co-led a work package with NICE, and more recently is a lead on the recently-launched IMI GetReal Initiative. Rob holds degrees in Economics from the University of Cambridge and the University of New South Wales.
