Dr. Placide began his medical career as a physical therapist at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and also taught Gross Anatomy and Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Maryland. In 1992 he began medical school at the Eastern Virginia Medical School where he graduated with honors. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he gained extensive experience in the treatment of adult and pediatric orthopaedic and spine disorders. After residency, Dr. Placide completed a spine surgery fellowship at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he had the privilege to train with some of the country’s foremost orthopaedic and neurological spine surgeons.

Dr. Placide joined West End Orthopaedic Clinic in 2003 and has since built a multidimensional practice dedicated to the complete care of the spine. His extensive training and desire to improve the quality of life for patients, has created a practice that is patient-centered with a focus on research and outcomes. In addition, Dr. Placide maintains his academic involvement with a teaching appointment at the Medical College of Virginia as well as being involved in ongoing research projects, medical publications and lecturing locally and nationally.
