Richard A. Palma, ACS, RCS, RDCS, FACVP, FSDMS, FASE currently works as an Advanced Cardiac Sonographer and the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator for the Duke School of Medicine Cardiac Sonography Certificate Program. He is the only sonographer to receive a Fellowship from the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and the Alliance of Cardiovascular Professionals.

Richie has worked in the profession since 1990 and was a lead sonographer for several years before developing a nationally accredited cardiac ultrasound program in 2001 in Hartford, CT. In 2020 he developed a nationally accredited program at the graduate level for the School of Medicine at Duke University. Richie is also a national speaker for Philips Healthcare, Lantheus Medical Imaging and recently joined ESP Ultrasound teaching ultrasound physics to sonographers preparing for their national registry.

Richie holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Northeastern University. In addition to authoring many guidelines and book chapters, he recently published the Echocardiographer’s Pocket Reference 5th Edition. A dedicated educator for over 20 years, Richie received the SDMS Distinguished Educator Award in 2011. Richie is married with three children and resides in Durham, NC.
