Dr. Richard Gammon is a subject matter expert in the area of patient blood management. His programs provide hospitals with current evidenced-based transfusion thresholds, management of the transfusion committee and emphasize the importance of appropriate transfusions. Dr. Gammon holds Board Certifications in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine as well as Clinical Pathology. He is a Medical Director for OneBlood and Transfusion Medicine Specialists and an Assistant Professor of Pathology for the University of Central Florida College Of Medicine and a Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology at NOVA Southeastern University College of Allopathic Medicine.
He is co-chair of the Scientific and Technical Committee and an Education Committee member and PACE Administrator of the South Central Association of Blood Banks. He is a member of the Scientific Medical and Technical, Blood Bulletin, Grant, Employee Training and Development Committees, and Chair of the Journal Club for America’s Blood Centers. Dr. Gammon serves as an assessor, Mentor program, member of the CME Advisory and International Variances, Patient Blood Management Education Committees, bacterial contamination workgroup, European Blood Alliance Working Group and Blood Banks Transfusion Service Standards Program Unit’s chair for AABB and chair of the Transfusion Medicine/Patient Blood Management Working Group. He is a manuscript reviewer for the journals Transfusion, Transfusion and Apheresis Science and Associate Editor in Immunohematology for Lab Medicine and serves as a peer reviewer for UpToDate.
