Richard Preston Wendell MD, MBA, FACEP

Dr. Wendell moved to Charleston, SC in 1993, but left the state briefly to attend Wake Forest University for college. He has lived in the state since returning in 2001 to attend the Medical University of South Carolina. During his years at MUSC, he was selected to the Presidential Scholars Program and served as Co-Chair of the Medical Student Alumni Council.

Dr. Wendell completed a residency at Palmetto Health Richland in June 2008 and remained in Columbia to do an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship the next year. After fellowship, he took a position with Trident Emergency Physicians in Charleston SC as a staff physician and emergency ultrasound director. He remains with this group today, now serving as the medical director for Summerville Medical Center emergency department and just recently leading the group through a successful merger with Team Health.

Dr. Wendell became very involved with the SC chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He joined the board of trustees shortly after residency, became actively involved in state and national advocacy, and served as the SCCEP President from 20013-14.Dr. Wendell currently lives in Mt Pleasant SC with his lovely wife Sarah, two wonderful boys Taylor and Elliott, and a loyal labradoodle companion, Winnie.
