Dr. Richard Schwartzstein is a professor of Medicine and Medical Education at Harvard Medical School and associate chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). He is the course director of integrated human physiology in the first-year integrated curriculum. In 2009, he was named the director of the HMS Academy for Teaching Excellence and Educational Innovation, and in this position holds the Ellen and Melvin Gordon Chair for Medical Education.
Dr. Schwartzstein is a member of the AAMC's MR5 Committee and serves as co-chair of the Year 1 Fundamentals of Medicine Committee. He has been the executive director of the Shapiro Institute for Education and Research and vice president for education at BIDMC since 2004.
