Dr. Richard L. Berkowitz is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the former Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. His multiple contributions through the years qualify him for inclusion in this series of “Giants of Obstetrics and Gynecology.”. A pioneer in the use of obstetrical ultrasound, management and treatment of fetal blood disorders, and fetal urinary tract obstructions, Dr. Berkowitz has developed several diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to treat fetal diseases in utero. He brings to Columbia’s MFM team a special interest in managing high-order, multiple pregnancies, including those with one or more abnormal fetuses. Appointed Director of Resident Education in 2005, and currently serving as Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Berkowitz has trained a generation of MFM specialists.
