Richard Ries, M.D., F.A.P.A., F.A.S.M., is the director of Outpatient Psychiatry and the Psychiatry Addiction Division at Harborview and a UW professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Ries believes in actively partnering with patients to achieve the best possible outcome.
Dr. Ries earned his M.D. at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He is triple board-certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. He does research in addictions, suicide, and severe mental illness. He is a founding member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatrists and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and is the senior editor for ASAM's Principles of Addiction Medicine.
