Richard Hooley obtained his undergraduate degrees in Natural Sciences from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, and his Ph.D. in the laboratory of Prof. Martin F. Semmelhack at Princeton University. Following a postdoctoral position in the lab of Prof. Julius Rebek Jr. at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA he began his independent career in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California – Riverside in 2008 and was promoted to Professor in 2018. The Hooley group works on various aspects of organic, inorganic, and supramolecular chemistry, with a focus on the synthesis and applications of biomimetic self-assembled cages and hosts, and their functions in supramolecular catalysis, molecular recognition, and biosensing.
