Richard F. Schmidt, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ (UMDNJ). He then completed his residency in neurological surgery with an enfolded fellowship in Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Schmidt has conducted research on a variety of topics, including epilepsy surgery, management of spinal cord injury, complex spinal tumor surgery, and modulation of the blood-brain barrier through sphenopalatine ganglion stimulation in rat models. Most recently, he has been investigating the use of novel techniques and devices for endovascular interventions at the Department of Neurological Surgery, Vickie and Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA.
