Dr. Richard A. Bernstein, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Director of the Northwestern Stroke Program at Northwestern Medicine. A vascular neurologist with extensive expertise in cerebrovascular disease, he leads multidisciplinary efforts focused on the prevention, acute treatment, and long-term management of stroke.

As Director of the Northwestern Stroke Program, Dr. Bernstein oversees clinical operations, quality initiatives, and programmatic development to advance comprehensive stroke care across the health system. His leadership supports evidence-based protocols, rapid response systems, and coordinated post-stroke care designed to optimize neurologic outcomes.

Dr. Bernstein is actively engaged in clinical research and translational science, collaborating across departments and research institutes to improve stroke diagnostics, therapeutics, and systems of care. In addition to his clinical and administrative roles, he is dedicated to mentoring trainees and educating the next generation of neurologists in vascular neurology and stroke systems science.
