Ricardo Franco-Sadud, MD joined the NCH team in 2017 as an Academic Hospitalist. He came to NCH from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he successfully established a Bedside Procedure Service that rapidly expanded in scope and volume of procedures, performing procedures for internal medicine, hematology/oncology, cardiology, and transplant surgery.

He imported this concept from Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where his procedure service performed common bedside procedures and was expanded to include bedside core-needle biopsies of lymph nodes and insertion of tunneled catheters under fluoroscopy. He also participated in the only hospitalist study to assess the impact of hand-carried ultrasound in the care of patients with chest pain at Cook County Hospital.

Dr. Franco-Sadud’s expertise in bedside ultrasound is now being used at NCH to train Internal Medicine residents on common bedside procedures and Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for bedside diagnosis and therapeutic decisions.

As a dedicated educator, Dr. Franco-Sadud has, since 2010, participated in many national and local continuing medical educations events to teach applications of portable ultrasound, including the Society of Hospital Medicine’s “Point-of-Care Ultrasound for the Hospitalist” pre-course.
