Dr. Ricardo Hanel, MD, PhD, is a highly skilled neurosurgeon and cerebrovascular specialist at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, and part of the Lyerly Neurosurgery team within Baptist Health. He serves as Co-Medical Director of the Cerebral Cavernous Malformations Program and Co-Medical Director of the Baptist Stroke & Cerebrovascular Center, where he focuses on advanced treatment of complex brain and cerebrovascular conditions, including skull base disorders, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and acute stroke intervention using cutting-edge endovascular neurosurgery techniques. Dr. Hanel is known for his patient-centered approach, emphasizing education, individualized care, and the use of innovative therapies to improve outcomes.

Dr. Hanel earned his Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from the Federal University of Paraná in Curitiba, Brazil, where he also completed his internship and neurosurgery residency. Following his training in Brazil, he advanced his expertise in the United States with fellowships in neuroendovascular and cerebrovascular surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo and at the Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He holds Brazilian board certification in neurosurgery and is multilingual in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Dr. Hanel is actively involved in neurosurgical research and academic activities, contributing to numerous publications in the field of cerebrovascular surgery and neurointerventional treatment.
