Prof Reto Auer, MD, MAS, is a primary care physician and clinical researcher. He is an Assistant Professor on the Tenure Track and has been head of research at the Institute of Primary Health Care (BIHAM) at the University of Bern since August 2016, where he leads a variety of research projects, including projects that promote participatory medicine in primary health care for colorectal cancer decision-making, and a large randomized controlled trial designed to test the efficacy, safety, and toxicology of nicotine vaporizers (E-cigarettes). He has been an Adjunct Physician at the Department of Community and Ambulatory Care at the University of Lausanne, since January 2017. There, he collaborates on projects related to colorectal cancer screening and smoking cessation interventions. Prof Auer also works as a front-line primary care physician in a group practice in Bern (Gemeinschaftspraxis Brunnmatt). He trained as an internist physician in St-Imier, Lausanne, and Vevey and was awarded a Masters in Advanced Studies (MAS), with a focus on implementation and dissemination sciences, at the University California San Francisco (UCSF) in 2014.
