Dr. Renee Fugere exercise in Philippe Pinel Institute since 2001. She is currently working on the mental health unit for female offenders. She worked at the Aftercare and Detention Center Riviere-des-Prairies until 2004. It subsequently developed the health unit program for women offenders.

She is an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Montreal Department and professor affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University. From 2006 to 2008, she served as President of the Canadian Academy of Law and Psychiatry (CAPL) . She received the Bruno Cormier Award from the Canadian Academy of Psychiatry and Law in 2011 and a Fellow of the Canadian Psychiatric Association. Since fall 2012, she is a founding member of forensic psychiatry in Canada, as offered by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She was awarded the Distinguished Fellow Award from the Canadian Psychiatric Association in fall 2012 in recognition of outstanding contributions to psychiatry specialty. She received in 2012 also, the recognition of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Montreal for his ten years of service in the institution.

She will direct the Philippe Pinel Institute in Montreal for a first term of 4 years.
