Rene Verdonk, MD, PhD, professor of orthopaedic surgery and chief of orthopedic surgery and traumatology at the Gent University Hospital, Gent, Belgium, was inducted into the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) Hall of Fame on July 8, during its annual meeting in San Diego. The Hall of Fame honor recognizes members of the orthopedic sports medicine community who have significantly contributed to the specialty, according to an AOSSM press release.

Verdonk, an Orthopaedics Today Europe Editorial Board member, is the current co-editor in chief of Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, the official journal of the European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA). He is a past president and served as chairman of the basic science committee at ESSKA.
