Dr. Abrams, professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine, serves as chief of Hand and Microvascular Surgery and vice chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and hand surgery.

Dr. Abrams completed his fellowship work at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard University. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery and earned his medical degree at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Abrams’ research has been focused on upper extremity functional anatomy, peripheral nerve and tendon repair, and elbow biomechanics. He has been listed in The Best Doctors in America, Pacific Region, and has been selected as a “Best Doctor in America" by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. He has also been recognized as one of San Diego’s "Top Doctors" by San Diego Magazine and has been ranked in the top 1 percent of hand surgeons and orthopedic surgeons by U.S. News and World Report.

Dr. Abrams has been recognized as an outstanding educator, receiving the UC San Diego Orthopedic Surgery Resident Teaching Award on four occasions. He has been a regional, national and international invited lecturer. He trains post-residency graduates through a highly sought-after fellowship training program in hand and microvascular surgery.
