Dr. O'Keefe is the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. He is a orthopedic surgeon specializing in musculoskeletal oncology and adult reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee. He has clinical interests in the management of benign and malignant bone and soft (connective) tissue tumors in both children and adults, bone infections, skeletal reconstruction, curettage of bone tumors and allograft procedures, and primary and revision total hip and total knee arthroplasty.

Dr. O'Keefe received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1985 and completed a surgical internship from Harvard Medical School/New England Deaconess Hospital in 1986. He served as an Instructor/Fellow of Research at the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry until 1988, where he then went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center in 1992. He then completed a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology from the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1993. In 2000, he pursued a doctorate degree in biochemistry and biophysics from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry.
