Dr. Raymond J. Gibbons is a native of Wood-Ridge, New Jersey, USA. He obtained a B.S.E. in aerospace and mechanical sciences from Princeton University, where he was valedictorian of his class. He obtained an M.Sc. in mathematics from Oxford University, where he studied on a Rhodes Scholarship. Following graduate work in biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, he obtained an M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School where he was part of the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology(HST) program. He completed internal medicine training at Massachusetts General Hospital and cardiology training at Duke University Medical Center. He has been on the staff at Mayo Clinic for 37 years. He is the Arthur M. and Gladys D. Gray Professor of Medicine. He is Past Chairman of the ACC-AHA Task Force on Practice Guidelines and a Past President of the American Heart Association.
