Raphael Schneider MD, PhD, FRCPC

Dr. Raphael Schneider, MD, PhD, FRCPC, is a Neurologist at St. Michael's Hospital, Ontario, Canada. He received his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Toronto. He is a neurologist and researcher working in the BARLO MS Centre at St. Michael’s Hospital. He is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto in both the Department of Medicine and the Institute of Medical Science. He completed a Ph.D. in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (neuroscience) at the University of Toronto, focusing on extracellular vesicles as biomarkers in neurological diseases, and a postdoctoral fellowship in neuroimmunology at the Université de Montréal where he studied the role of CD8+ T lymphocytes in multiple sclerosis (MS). Before joining the MS group at St. Michael’s Hospital, Dr. Schneider completed the Clinical Investigator Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada supported by a Phillipson Clinician-Scientist scholarship.

Dr. Schneider’s primary research focus is finding new blood and spinal fluid biomarkers for people with MS. He is particularly interested in early diagnosis and estimation of prognosis. He has recently been awarded a Slamen-Fast New Initiatives in Neurology Award and a Medical Research Grant from the J.P. Bickell Foundation. His research interests include Neurology, Neuroscience, Flow Cytometry, Immunology, Neurodegeneration, Neurological Diseases, Cytokines, Cell Culture, Inflammation, and Autoimmunity.
