Randy Miles MD, MPH

Dr. Randy Miles is a nationally recognized leader in breast imaging, early cancer detection, and health systems innovation. He serves as Section Chief of Breast Imaging and Director of Early Cancer Detection at the University of Chicago Medicine, where he leads integrated clinical, research, and population health initiatives to enhance screening performance and outcomes. Before this role, he held multiple senior leadership positions at the Denver Health Medical Center, including Chief Research Officer (CRO), Associate Director for Research in Radiology, and Chief of Breast Imaging.

Dr. Miles earned his medical degree from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, where he received the Miller Award for Humanitarianism for his leadership in international medical mission work. He also obtained a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health as a Zuckerman Fellow. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Illinois- Chicago, serving as chief resident, followed by fellowship training in breast imaging at the University of Washington Medical Center. He was subsequently recruited to the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he held several leadership roles, including Breast Imaging Education Director and Clinical Service Chief.

In his leadership roles, Dr. Miles has led high-impact clinical and operational initiatives, including implementation of advanced imaging technologies such as contrast-enhanced mammography and system-level efforts to enhance patient experience and efficiency. He has also built an academic portfolio, with over 90 peer-reviewed publications and multiple national and international presentations focused on operational redesign, risk stratification, and improving population-level screening performance. He has extended this work internationally, collaborating with global partners to design, implement, and optimize breast imaging programs. Nationally, he serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American College of Radiology and the Journal of Breast Imaging and is Co-Chair of the American College of Radiology Practice Parameters Committee on Digital Breast Tomosynthesis. Collectively, his efforts are focused on advancing early cancer detection through high-quality, guideline-driven care for all patients.
