Dr. Ranak Trivedi is an assistant professor in the Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, at Stanford University and an investigator at the Center for Innovation to Implementation at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a health psychology concentration from Duke University. Dr. Trivedi envisions a healthcare system that is not only patient-centered but family-centered, wherein family (family members and friends) are engaged and empowered in navigating the healthcare system on the patient’s behalf while receiving the support and services receive that they need.

Dr. Ranak's studies have provided insights into how families and chronically and serious patients collaborate around their mutual health, understanding the impact of their interpersonal relationship on chronic illness self-management, and the individual, dyadic, and systems-level barriers that they encounter. She has developed two technology-enabled dyadic self-management programs to address the stress management needs of both patients and their families.

Dr. Ranak has been PI or co-I on several VA and NIH-funded projects, including the funded Elizabeth Dole National Center of Excellence for Veterans and Caregiver Research, a 4-site, virtual center of excellence to understand and address the unmet needs of caregivers of seriously ill Veterans. She received one of the 2019 Sojourns Scholarship Leadership Awards from Cambia Health Foundation, a 2-year leadership award in palliative care. As part of this project, she will be focusing on the unmet needs of South Asian women with breast cancer and their family. She serves as the Director of Caregiving and Family Systems at the Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education (CARE).

A secondary interest for Dr. Trivedi is to improve the management of mental health conditions in primary care settings. She has conducted several national evaluations of how the VA primary care model affects Veterans with mental health conditions. Dr. Trivedi is also the Training Director at the Center for Innovation to Implementation at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System where she directs and co-directs 4 postdoctoral and post-residency fellowships focusing on health services research, medical informatics, and the science of informal caregiving.
