Ralph A. Gambardella, MD, is currently a Sports Medicine/Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California, where he is also President and Chairman of the Board. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Gambardella is presently serving as team orthopaedist for Loyola Marymount University Department of Athletics. His special interests are in shoulder and elbow reconstruction and articular cartilage repair.
Dr. Gambardellas professional background includes membership in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the International Cartilage Repair Society and Association of Major League Baseball Team Physicians where he has previously served as president.
Dr. Gambardella has authored over 15 publications and five textbooks and currently sits on the Board of Consulting Reviewers for Arthroscopy: the Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery, and for Techniques in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He has facilitated more than 150 national and international lectures. He also serves a consultant for several companies including Arthrocare, Genzyme Corporation, Surgitech and Carmell Therapeutics.
Dr. Gambardella earned his medical degree at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He completed his surgical internship at Tufts/New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Dr. Gambardella completed a sports medicine fellowship program at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic clinic in 1983 and returned to join the clinic in 1985. The clinic has since grown employing over 20 orthopaedists and maintaining the largest accredited orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship program in the United States.
