Dr. Rakesh Patel is Course Director for the MMedSci in Medical Education & Divisional Postgraduate Taught Course and Research Lead in the Education Centre. Dr. Patel graduated from Leicester with a degree in Medicine and undertook his early medical training across the East Midlands. He completed a Masters in Medical Education from the University of Dundee in 2011. His thesis investigated the experiential-relevance of self-regulated learning in underperformance, and described a conceptual model for understanding the student failing experience at medical school. He completed a Doctorate in Medical Education research and his thesis investigated the use of virtual patients created from web-based simulation for developing clinical problem-solving and decision-making skills among novices at medical school. In 2012, he was appointed NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Medical Education at the University of Leicester. His current research investigates the effectiveness of a multifaceted educational intervention for increasing the prescribing performance and safety behaviours of junior doctors across hospitals in the NHS (http://tinyurl.com/EPIFFANYHEEVIDEO). He is an education associate of the General Medical Council and committee member for the Technology-enhanced learning committee of Association for Medical Education in Europe.
