Dr. Rajit K. Basu, MD, MS, FCCM, is the Division Chief of Critical Care Medicine and Posy and Jon Krehbiel Professor of Pediatrics at the Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Basu has a primary research focus in critical care nephrology. His work encompasses tools for risk stratification, biomarker-based phenotyping of acute kidney injury, advanced extracorporeal renal support therapies, and novel strategies for fluid management. He serves on several international consensus panels for critical care nephrology and is a leader in pediatric AKI research.

His work spans basic, translational, clinical, educational, and simulation science, with support from local programs, federal grants, and industry. He leads the academic, educational, and clinical enterprise for the Division of Critical Care Medicine at Lurie Children’s, promoting a culture and training environment built on continuous improvement – for patients, providers, and pediatric critical care. He serves on the SCCM Planning Committee, Nominations Committee, Chairs the Executive Committee of the Pediatric Section, and is the Founder and Director of the GUARDIANS program.
