Prof. Dr. med. habil. Rainer Freynhagen, DEAA has been working at the Benedictus Hospital Tutzing since April 2009 as Chief Physician at the Center for Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Palliative Medicine. Prior to that, the renowned anesthesiologist and pain specialist headed the Department of Pain Therapy and Palliative Medicine at the Department of Anaesthesiology of the University Hospital Düsseldorf for more than 10 years.
After studying at the Universities of Aachen and Dusseldorf with stays abroad in England and Wales, he completed his practical year in Switzerland in the Cantonal Hospital of Lucerne. He received his doctorate in 1993 on the subject of intracranial pressure measurement in intensive care medicine at the Neurosurgical Clinic of the University of Düsseldorf.
After receiving his specialist recognition, he obtained the European Specialist Diploma in Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Therapy (DEAA) in 1998 and completed an extra-occupational additional course "Health Management" in Cologne between 1999 and 2000. Since 1999 he has worked as a senior physician at the Department of Anaesthesiology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf and as a senior physician in the Pain Management and Palliative Medicine Department.
