Rainier Storb, M.D., is a researcher in blood and bone marrow stem cell transplantation at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and a UW professor of Oncology and Medicine. He is one of the founders of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Although Dr. Storb works primarily in the lab, he spends two months working with patients at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and two weeks on consult service. He says patients want to know three things: that their doctors know medicine, that they are on the cutting edge of research, and that they have compassion—that they really care.

Dr. Storb earned his M.D. at the University of Freiburg in Germany. He joined the UW in 1965 with a Fulbright Scholarship. He is grateful to the National Institutes of Health whose grants have supported his work without interruptions for the past 50 years.
